Speak Now or Forever Hold Out On Peace
I saw the movie Traitor a few days ago. It was ok, not great. On the positive side, it wasn’t entirely predictable, which seems all too rare these days in movies. On the negative side, it had pervasive political undertones. Big surprise there, right?
Hollywood has a few basic templates that they use to promote their leftist agendas. Coming soon to a theater near you it’s “All Big Corporations and The Rich People That Run Them Are Evil and Taking Advantage of You Right Now” or how about “White People Are Inherently Racist. Yes, Every One of Them” and, of course, there is the always celebrated “Our Planet Is Burning Up and It’s All Your Fault…You, You, You Big Capitalist Meanie Poop Head.” I also like the “America: War-Mongering Bully” story and the “Animals Are People Too, You Know, and They’re Probably Smarter Than You” picture. Plus, I’d be amiss to not mention the smash hit “Everyone Should Be Gay Because Homosexuality Is Natural and Fun and It Will Make You Feel Good About Yourself and You’ll Have Such A More Fulfilling Life If You Would Just Go Tell Your Roommate That You Want To Start Sleeping With Him.” Of course, I’m also a sucker for the flick…oh, how does it go…oh yeah “The Only Balanced, Cool, Sensible People In The World Are Liberals, Gays, Democrats, Greenies, Transvestites, Poor People, Minorities, Feminists, the Morally Depraved or All of The Above. Everybody Else Is a Backwards, Weird, Out of Touch, Selfish, Semi-Retarded Hillbilly Who Wants to Turn America Into A Fascist Theocracy” and along those lines, how can you not love the “Christians Are Bigoted, Narrow-Minded, Extremist Freaks and Are Very, Very Dangerous” theme.
All classics.
Today, though, we’re going to talk about the new topic that is sweeping Hollywood. Straight from the movie Traitor it’s “Please Ignore All The Bombings, Because Islam Really Is A Religion of Peace, and Muslims Really Are Peaceful People.” This one is especially great because it’s interactive. You have to purposefully throw common sense to the wind to enjoy it. Who doesn’t like doing that?
Let me start out by making the obligatory statement that not every Muslim is a terrorist. Look, everybody knows this. There aren’t 1.2 billion suicide bombers in the world. If there were, I probably wouldn’t be alive right now to write this. However, on the flip side, to say that Islam is a peaceful religion is quite silly. It is more than happenstance that virtually all terrorists are Muslims who believe they are acting in accordance with the teachings of the Koran.
But what about the 90 plus percent of Muslims out there who aren’t making bombs every night in their basements? Here’s the thing. Most Muslims are similar to most Christians in that they would rather just work their jobs, rest on the weekends, and not think about anything except their own little worlds than make a real difference. Most Muslims are similar to most Christians in that they know what they as believers should be doing with their lives to honor their God, but they’ll gladly let someone else do it so they can take a nap, or watch the game, or so they can just be left alone. Most Muslims don’t leave their families, strap a bomb to their chest, and detonate it in a crowded market, and most Christians don’t drop everything, head to the Amazon, and try to proselytize the locals. Just as true, though, is the fact that most Christians who sit in their Lazyboys on a Tuesday night flipping through the channels greatly respect and appreciate those Christian missionaries who do scour the earth spreading the Gospel. Can we rightly infer then that most Muslims feel the same way about the Islamic terrorists? Because the only difference between the Christian missionary and the Islamic terrorist is strategy. Christianity instructs its followers to peacefully convert non-believers while Islam commands its people to violently eliminate them. And while the typical Christian will never share Christ with even one other person over their lifetime, or while the typical Muslim will never blow up an infidel, that’s not the crux of the matter. There will always be great variance in obedience and zeal amongst the people of any religion. What is most significant, though, is the fact that these typical believers, be them Muslim or Christian, all know by simple virtue of being a believer that doing those things is their duty and calling.
Let me ask you this. When was the last time you heard a prominent Islamic leader openly condemn terrorism? I can’t recall that I ever have. There are roughly 1.2 billion Muslims in the world today. Every week we read in the papers of a new terrorist act that was performed to the glory of Allah, yet we scarcely hear but a hint of disgust from the rest of the Muslims on earth who worship him and purportedly don’t subscribe to killing in his name. Let’s be real. Tomorrow, if a group of Christians went on a murdering spree for Jesus sake, you can be assured that the outrage from Christian leaders, pastors, and believers across the planet would be palpable. Therefore, to think that a large number of non-extremist Muslims aren’t at least sympathetic to the actions of their more radical cohorts is stunningly naïve. Brothers and sisters of theirs take the lives of innocent people daily…yet they say nothing. Leaders of Islam around the globe must know the serious impact that their combined voices of condemnation would have in stopping future terrorist attacks…yet they sit idly. So then, is it really so absurd for me to interpret their quiescence as anything but the lack of a true desire for peace?
To me, and to I suppose, many others, their silence is incriminating.
The rallying call from the left is that the terrorists are but a tiny minority, and that they are perverting the true peaceful message of Islam with their radicalism. I’d like to believe this notion, but when the only folks constantly promoting it are non-Muslim, Hollywood film makers, it is difficult to do so. They sacrificed their credibility on the altar of propaganda years ago. Here’s the true question. Where is the outcry from the vast majority of Muslims who aren’t terrorists, and who supposedly are so overwhelmingly moderate? I propose, and fear, that this uproar never comes because, at heart, very few genuine moderates actually exist. Sure, there might be only a few million actual Islamic terrorists on this earth, but it seems to me that they may have close to a billion plus cheerleaders, albeit mute ones, in many of their fellow Muslim brethren.

So the second paragraph of this blog … one of the best paragraphs I’ve ever read! I emailed this blog to my friend Jenny, a fellow anti-hollywood ridiculously conservative person, and she told me she definitely wants to read more of your blogs. And she showed it to her mom who said, referring to you, “He sounds like a great guy.” Basically this is what you should be thinking right now: “I’m so glad I have Lindsey for a sister because she not only promotes my blogs but also loves my babies and enjoys eating meatballs.”
